Chandigarh: Taking exception to SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal’s call for a gherao of the Vidhan Sabha on the first day of the Budget session next month, the Punjab Congress accused him of befooling people with “misleading statements and false allegations”. State Congress president Sunil Jakhar and Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu termed the SAD’s decision to gherao the Assembly “undemocratic and shameful”. The Akalis have disrupted every Assembly session since the Congress came to power, Jakhar and Sidhu said, adding that these acts were clear evidence that the SAD did not want to have any meaningful discussion or debate in the House but was instead resorting to “petty street politics”. Sidhu said people of Punjab were tired of Sukhbir’s capers and wanted serious governance, which Capt Amarinder Singh was providing them.
