PB govt to celebrate its first anniversary with farm debt relief scheme. The Punjab government has decided to celebrate its first year celebration with farm debt relief programme. According to the official sources of CMO, nearly 3 lakh farmers would be accommodated with debt relief cheques/certificates. Various departments have been asked to prepare the lists of their achievements for celebrations. Although till now no date has been finalised for it, but it is believed that celebration programme is likely to be before the state Assembly budget session. Interestingly, before the function, the government would likely to expand its Cabinet with 6-7 ministers more. Captain Amrinder Singh had taken oath as Chief Minister on March 16, 2017.
The CM Captain Amrinder Singh had launched farm debt waiver scheme in Mansa of Malwa Zone on January 7 of this year. Under the scheme notified, marginal and small farmers having land holding of less than 2.5 and 5 acre respectively, are being accommodated with debt relief of Rs 2 lakh each farmer. Over 47,000 farmers had been given relief certificate to tune of Rs 167.39 crore, who had taken loans from cooperative societies. Besides it, some other functions are being chalked out by the government, including Mushaira. Sources also said that Cabinet is likely to be expanded by 3-4 March, as the government will be free from corporation elections. It is said that some MLAs who are keen for cabinet berth, are likely to join the celebrations.
