Major reshuffle in civil and police administration of Punjab likely to take place in coming 10 days. With it’s one year completing this month, Capt Amarinder Singh government is contemplating to make big changes in state administration. Keeping in view the ensuing parliament elections, the Chief Minister is keen to provide a proactive administration to the people, as per sources.
The re-entrance of Suresh Kumar as CPS to CM has set in motion the process for reshuffle in the administration. Many of the present Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSP) are likely to get replaced. Last one year’s performance will be one of the key criteria to retain the district heads, it is learnt. A bureaucrat, hoping to get district level responsibility, said “With Suresh Kumar at the helm of affairs, we hope merit will be the criteria in the reshuffle”.
The Deputy Commissioners who have completed two years tenure at one place are said to be being considered for shifting to other districts. It is said that the Deputy Commissioners who have performed well are likely to retained and shifted to other districts, whereas others will be brought to civil secretariat. Many of the DCs have shown characteristics of excellent administrators, they have become very popular in their districts, due to their cheerful disposition and skill of effective communicator.
As per sources, SSPs of Bathinda, Fazilka, Faridkot and Muktsar are likely to be affected in the reshuffle. DCs of Fazilka, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Patiala, Bathinda and few others are also likely to be shifted. Sangrur may also get a new DC as APS Virk’s name is being finalised for PPSC, his retirement date is 30th April 2018. Few IAS officers of the 2011 batch are also expected to get posting as district head.
