Illegal sand mining row: Cabinet committee to submit report after budget session

Jalandhar(Puneet Pal Singh) – To expose the names of high profile people and politicians the Punjab government has constituted a special cabinet committee consisting three Cabinet Ministers including Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal, Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa and Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu.
According to official sources, the trio committee will submit its detailed report to Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh after the budget session. A spokesperson said that the committee will investigate the all sanctioned places of Punjab and the measures approved to them for digging. He said that all technical aspects will be examined and a brief list will be made out of defaulters in sand mining.
Apart from this, the committee will thoroughly investigate the illegal sand mining happening in Punjab in various districts. It will not only include the names of ‘Thekedars’ but also the politicians earning millions out of this business using their political power to submerge the bureaucracy.
It is also said that the committee will not only include the names of opposition party leaders but also the names of ruling party MLAs and influential leaders associated with illegally digging of sand. The trio committee will also have question hours with government officials posted in the areas prone to illegal sand mining. The localities include Shahkot, Nawashehar, Hoshiarpur and other areas of the river banks.
Information revealed that the committee will form a list of political leaders associated with land mining and CM would take further actions in regard to the list. This is to mention that on Tuesday when Captain himself personally saw the sand mining live during air travel, there has been a tire in the administration and the Congress leaders including sand mafia. CM formed a committee to lash the illegal sand mining business to control the loss of more than Rs 10,000 crores.
The committee will submit its report within one month after the budget session and a report would not be publicised due to constitutional norms, said an official. According to sources, including several previews government leaders and ruling party MLAs are likely to be inducted in this report.
