Faridkot : District and Sessions Judge Satvinder Singh today directed former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal to appear in his court on March 15 in a 12-year-old attempt-to-murder case.

Naresh Kumar Sehgal, a Kotkapura resident, has filed an appeal in the court, challenging Sukhbir’s acquittal in the case.

The trial in this appeal case is at argument stage. While asking the complainant to place on record the remaining argument, if any, on March 15, the court also directed Sukhbir to be present in the court.

After an appeal was filed by Sehgal, the court had started the trial in the case in May 2016.

On April 2, 2016, the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Faridkot, had acquitted Sukhbir in the case.

On June 30, 2006, a case was registered against Sukhbir at the Kotkapura police station on the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court after Sehgal had approached the court.

He had accused Sukhbir and some of his associates of making a murderous attack on him on September 5, 1999, during the electioneering for Parliamentary elections in Kotkapura.
