SAD women’s wing leader sues Khaira for defamation

Chandigarh : Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) women’s wing general secretary Jaswinder Kaur has filed a criminal defamation case against Leader of the Opposition Sukhpal Khaira.

The complainant, a Barnala resident, has alleged that Khaira used unparliamentarily language against her in a video. The case has been filed in the district courts here and will be taken up on Thursday.

On November 2 last year, Jaswinder had been thrashed by three persons in Barnala. A video of the incident had surfaced on social media on December 8. Three days later, Khaira had uploaded a video commenting on the incident. The complaint has been filed under Sections 499, 500 and 504 of the IPC.

The complaint reads, “The intention of the accused behind the video was mala fide... and without any reasonable or probable cause, with specific intention to belittle and defame the complainant.”

Jaswinder’s counsel Pardhuman Garg said he had submitted CDs of the video and a transcript of Khaira’s comments along with the complaint.
