Chandigarh : Minister for Water Supply and Sanitation Tript Rajinder Bajwa said cases would be registered against sarpanches who had not paid electricity bills after collecting money from villagers.
The question arose as due to the non-payment of bills from the past long time, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) disconnected the power connections of water pumps in many villages recently.
Tript Rajinder Bajwa informed the House that power connections to villages where they had been cut for non-payment of bills were restored after the intervention by the Chief Minister.
He was speaking in context of a question raised by Leader of the Opposition Sukhpal Khaira, who said instead of sarpanches the responsibility of collecting and depositing the bills should be fixed with the department. Bajwa said the department was currently considering different options, including engaging a private agency, for the collection of bills.
Technical Education Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, in reply to a question of dissatisfactory standard of education in ITIs, said, “We are opening 25 skill development centres in the existing ITIs to give a better equipped professional training.”
On a question raised by MLA Harminder Singh Gill regarding “underhand exchange of money for illegal works at a godown spread over 84 acre in Chuslewar village of Patti constituency in Tarn Taran district”, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh sought a complaint assuring him of a fair probe at the earliest.
