Chandigarh : The Vidhan Sabha on Wednesday admitted a privilege motion against Leader of Opposition Sukhpal Singh Khaira for levelling allegation against Congress MLAs being involved in illegal mining activity in the state.

Moving the resolution, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Brahm Mohindra said after examining the record of the House proceedings on March 26, it was found that the Leader of Opposition had breached the privilege of the House by levelling false allegations of having received complaints of illegal mining by ruling party MLAs.

On the recommendation of the House, the matter has been referred to the Special Privileges Committee. Before the resolution could be moved, Khaira had walked out of the House.

Objecting to the resolution, AAP MLA HS Phoolka demanded the House should also take cognisance of Congress MLA Rana Gurjit casting aspersions on Khaira’s father. At the time of tabling the action taken report on the Narang Commission, both Khaira and Rana had resorted to aggressive posturing and gestures. They had used abusive language against each other, which was expunged by the Speaker.

On Tuesday, Congress legislator Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria had taken a strong note of news reports in which Leader of Opposition Sukhpal Kahira is mentioned to have stated that all legislators of the ruling party were involved in illegal mining.
