NABHA: In a programme organised to mark the 14th death anniversary of Panth Rattan Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra, at Tohra village on Sunday, Punjab technical education and industrial training minister Charanjit Singh Channi and other leaders took potshots at Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the Badals.

Aam Admi Party (AAP) leaders, including Tohra’s daughter Kuldeep Kaur Tohra and son-inlaw Harmel Singh Tohra, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, and other leaders, were also present at the programme.

“The Badals left no stone unturned to politically harm late Gurcharan Singh Tohra for their personal gains,” said Channi. He added that they even levied baseless allegations at him and got him removed from the leadership of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).

He said that the SAD leaders were responsible for his death. “I am disappointed that no one from the SAD cared to visit Tohra’s village to attend the programme, which was a ‘no particular party programme’,” said Channi.

Launching an attack on Sukhbir Singh Badal, Channi said that Sukhbir could have never been SAD chief, if Tohra would have been alive. “Sukhbir was baptised earlier, but he could not show his ‘kirpan’ in the Vidhan Sabha,” he said.

Former SGPC general secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhaur held SAD responsible for the sacrilege incidents of Sikh scriptures in the state. “Under SAD rule, police could not find the culprits, rather, they opened fire at peaceful protesters, demanding justice.”

Channi said that the Congress government will start a skill development centre or an Industrial Training institute (ITI) in Tohra village. A stadium, dedicated to Late Tohra, is being constructed in Fatehgarh Sahib, he said. “SAD has ignored this area ever since Tohra’s death.

Channi said that the previous government had imparted poor quality education and the Congress government has now changed the syllabus to develop ‘employable skills’ among students enrolled. He said that the state government will soon sign MoUs with 1,700 companies, to impart industrial training and employ the ITI students.
