Chandigarh: Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has trashed state BJP president Shwait Malik's comment on the government's functioning and accused him of "resorting to cheap tactics to divert the attention of the people from his own party’s failure at the Centre”. "Given the BJP's track record of misgovernance, none of its leaders has any locus standi to comment on the functioning of the Congress government," Capt Amarinder said, in a statement issued here. Reacting to the CM’s statement, Malik said: “I am duty-bound to raise my voice for the rights of the people, who want Capt Amarinder to fulfil his poll promises.”
Akalis should quit NDA: CPI leader
Jalandhar: Member of the National Council of the CPI Joginder Dayal on Sunday said the Akalis should disassociate themselves from the SAD-BJP combine if they claim to be the well-wisher of the state. He sought withdrawal of the notification passed by the MHA regarding acquiring rights for itself to fill the vacant posts in the Chandigarh administration. The CPI leader said, “The SAD should walk out of NDA. The SAD-BJP will be defeated in the state if Akalis continue to remain a part of the BJP." Dayal alleged that the SAD had been toeing the BJP line.
Brar to launch yatra on Kartarpur corridor
Jalandhar: Former Congress MP Jagmeet Brar said on Sunday that he would launch the second phase of his Mukti Yatra as Punjabiyat Lambandi Yatra from Sultanpur Lodhi on October 11 to demand the opening of the Kartarpur corridor. Citing a resolution passed in the Vidhan Sabha on October 1, 2010, by the then state government regarding smooth passage from Dera Baba Nanak to Kartarpur Sahib, Brar said, "I request the leaders of both parties (Congress and SAD) to fulfil the commitment made to the state's people eight years ago.”
No threat to peace in state, says DGP
Ludhiana: Asked about the growing presence of hardliners in the state, Director General of Police Suresh Arora on Sunday said the Punjab Police were capable of maintaining law and order and there was no threat to peace in the state. Arora said he met the STF DGP and soon, an anti-drug campaign would be launched.”
Man robbed of Rs 1.2 lakh
Tarn Taran: An employee of a finance company was robbed of Rs 1.2 lakh by three miscreants near Harike township, 35 km from here, on Saturday. The victim, Deepak Dikshit, a resident of Ferozpur, said he, along with an associate, was returning home after collecting payments when the robbers targeted him. The Harike police have registered a case under Section 379-B of the Indian Penal Code.
Abducted man found in drain
Tarn Taran: A man, identified as Palwinder Singh of Naurangabad village, who was allegedly abducted by Innova-borne persons on Saturday, was found in a drain at Plasaur village on Sunday. Sub-Inspector (SI) Harmit Singh said Palwinder and his brother-in-law were going to Manochahal Kalan village on a motorcycle when the Innova intercepted their motorcycle and the persons in the car allegedly abducted Palwinder. He said Palwinder failed to identift them. No arrest has been made so far.
