NEWDELHI/CHANDIGARH:Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday conveyed to the Congress high command the party state unit’s opinion against going for any political alliance in the state for the Lok Sabha polls in 2019.
On the issue of an alliance in the state, Amarinder, who went to Delhi after the state’s cabinet meeting, said that both he and the Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar had told the All-India Congress Committee (AICC) leaders that they would contest on their own and win all 13 Lok Sabha seats in the state. “We have also said that as far as a national alliance was concerned, it was up to the party high command,” he told reporters.
“I had informally taken the views of my cabinet colleagues after the meeting earlier today (on Wednesday) on the issue of the alliance. All were unanimous that no tie-up was needed; the party would win the LS polls in Punjab hands down,” the CM added.
To a question on legalising the cultivation of drugs, Amarinder added, “No matter what AAP MPs or others say, we don’t want any drugs to be grown in the state of Punjab.”
