LUDHIANA: The elections in five states to be held in November and December will mark the beginning of the end of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rule at the Centre. This was stated by national spokesperson of the Congress Manish Tewari here on Sunday.

Tewari was interacting with mediapersons on the sidelines of a function organised by Congress workers at the Simran Palace in the Ludhiana South Assembly segment to honour him on his appointment in the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

Tewari rejected the suggestion that efforts for forming a grand alliance against the ruling BJP at the Centre had failed, saying it was too early to reach conclusions. Tewari said the Narendra Modi government at the Centre has spelt the doom for the economy and the common man was finding it difficult to make both ends meet.

He said that the economy was so mismanaged and this had never been seen in such a state earlier. He said the rupee had lost its value against dollar by about half in past four- and-a-half years of the Modi government.

“The BJP will certainly be punished for its sins of omission and commission and the beginning will be made with the assembly elections in five states,” he said.

He said the results in the five states will also pave the way for the formation of the grand alliance at the Centre, adding that state-level arrangements will not have impact over general polls.
