French General’s bust: Captain asks dept to finalise installation

CHANDIGARH: Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh has directed the tourism and cultural affairs department to finalise modalities for installation of French General Jean Francois Allard’s bust in Amritsar on Thursday. Allard was the leader of Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s ‘Fauj-e-Khas’ cavalry.

The directive came during a meeting with a French delegation.

The delegation included Saint Tropez deputy mayor and tourism in-charge Henri Prevost Allard, and Sikhs De France council president Ranjit Singh. He is a fourth generation lineal descendant of General Allard.

“A befitting tribute to the military strategist, the bust will serve as a link to strengthen ties between Saint Tropez and Punjab,” the CM said.
