Chandigarh : Punjab Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa said on Sunday that the 2015 police firing Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura brought back memories of the Jallianwallah Bagh massacre of 1919, as the state marked third anniversary of the infamous incidents that killed two people.

"The Punjab Government is duty-bound to give justice to the victims of Behbal Kalan and Bargari firing incidents and the perpetrators would be behind the bars very soon. Due to some legal issues connected with the probe, the matter is facing delays but those responsible for the horrendous happening would face the law," Bajwa said, hours after he and Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria led Congress MLAs to participate in a “bhog ceremony” for the two victims—Kishan Bhagwan Singh and Gurjit Singh.

Explaining his government’s delay in taking action in the case, Bajwa, who was speaking at the third death anniversary of the two civilian victims of the brutal police action, said Chief Minister Amarinder Singh wanted to ensure that their cases was watertight.

Congress lawmakers Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon, Harminder Singh Gill, and former MLA Muhammad Sadiq first attended a ceremony to mark the third death anniversary of Krishan Bhagwan Singh at his native village Behbal Kalan, and later one to mark Gurjit Singh's death.

Bajwa said that the state government under Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had offered jobs and financial assistance to families of the victims, and that it would continue to help them as well as their villages.
