Chandigarh : Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday accused Panthic leaders and politicians of making political capital out of the emotive issue of sacrilege and the deaths in subsequent police firing at Behbal Kalan in 2015.
He said it was unfortunate that Sunday’s forum at Bargari to pay homage to police firing victims was hijacked by vested political interests.
“It is not going to work as the people of the state want peace and would not get carried away by attempts of such elements,” he said.
The Chief Minister said those with political ambitions used the Bargari platform, while the families of firing victims Krishan Bhagwan Singh and Gurjit Singh organised bhog ceremonies in their respective villages. Two ministers and some MLAs were by the side of the families, Capt Amarinder said.
Rejecting reports of Bargari becoming a rallying point for radicals and the situation there getting out of control, he said the government was fully equipped to deal with it.
