CHANDIGARH:: Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh on Friday rejected Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal’s claim that loan waiver by Punjab government and other Congress-ruled states was a “farce”.

Amarinder said Sukhbir was indulging in ‘political theatrics’ and advised him not to make such comments if he wanted to remain a contender in state politics.

Lashing at the SAD chief for exploiting the sentiments of farmers to whom the Akali-BJP government had failed to deliver, Amarinder said the former deputy chief minister was misleading the farming community.

The CM pointed out that Congress president Rahul Gandhi had already promised loan waiver for farmers across the country if the party was elected to power in the forthcoming parliamentary elections in 2019.

“The SAD-BJP combine was scared of the Congress leadership’s promise and its track record of delivering on poll manifesto,” he said.

The CM said the Badals did not take cognisance of the plight of farmers in Punjab and were now shedding crocodile tears for them.
