Hoshiarpur : A tertiary cancer care unit (TCCU) will be set up in Hoshiarpur as the approval for setting up of the radio therapy unit from the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, Mumbai, for the cancer hospital has been received.
The Chief Minister would soon lay the foundation stone of this cancer hospital, said local MLA-cum-Cabinet Minister Sunder Sham Arora.
He added that all paperwork and related process was complete. With the formation of this centre, not only the cancer patients in Punjab will be benefitted, but it will also prove to be a boon for neighbouring states, especially Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.
Industry and Commerce Minister Arora said the 50-bed centre would be constructed in the Civil Hopsital complex at a cost of Rs 16 crore.
He said the cancer hospital would have a three-storeyed building equipped with ultra-modern facilities, including radio therapy unit, X-ray, mammography and CT scan machines on the ground floor. The unit will have seven OPDs so that patients do not face any kind of discomfort.
