Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee president Amarinder Singh on Thursday invited Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL) to expand their business in Punjab as he ridiculed Punjab CM for not responding to MUL’s statements of seeking suitable place for its proposed expansion.

The PPCC president said the MUL chairman had ruled out moving out of Haryana but had said the company was planning to expand. “They are welcome to Punjab as it offers best environment besides we have lot of ancillary units here, which can be of immense support to MUL,” he said, while pointing out that already a lot of industrial units are supplying so many spare parts to the MUL and once they come to Punjab their job would become easier.

He criticised Badal for failing to take initiative in the matter as Punjab could offer a good environment to the MUL. The former Chief Minister said ideally it should have been the Chief Minister who should have taken the initiative and invited the MUL to come to Punjab. “But given the fact that Badal has no such futuristic vision as he remains busy and preoccupied with his sangat darshan programmes, we don’t expect him to do that,” he remarked while adding that it was just a matter of three months more and the Congress government would try to motivate them (the MUL) to come to here.

About the government proposal to provide alternate land to Gobindpura farmers, the PPCC president said he would welcome it if the farmers were convinced. But he added, “I do not trust Badal on anything as he always bides time as he did earlier by deceiving farmers to postpone their strike only to back out later.”

Talking to reporters outside the district court complex here, Capt had a dig at the CM over his statements urging Anna Hazare to launch a movement against political defections. “It is ridiculous on part of Badal to seek remedy to all his ills, including the defection of his nephew Manpreet Badal, from Hazare,” he observed.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included PPCC vice-president Chaudhary Jagjit Singh, general secretary Arvind Khanna, District Congress Committee, Ludhiana (urban).
