State Cong pleads with PM for Pak Hindus, Sikhs

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Congress unit on Monday sought the intervention of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to help Hindus and Sikhs who are allegedly facing intimidation and forced conversion across Pakistan, particularly in the Sindh province. In a press statement issued by general secretary Arvind Khanna, the party appealed that Hindus and Sikhs who had reached India must be provided relief and shelter.
Referring to the rise in the number of attacks on Hindus and Sikhs and emergency calls made by Hindus living in Sindh to Indian and US missions there, he said the way the union government took up the matter with the US authorities about the racial attack on the Wisconsin gurdwara, it should also raise the issue of Hindus’ and Sikhs’ security and survival in Pakistan with the government there. Khanna pointed out a number of these people had already crossed over to this side of the Punjab and they were scared to go back.
