Govt not bothered about development: Captain

SAS NAGAR: Punjab Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh on Tuesday accused the Akali-BJP government of failing to fulfil its development promises even after completing six months in power.
“The state government is not bothered about development and has brought the state to the verge of bankruptcy. In the past six months, the government has not rolled out any development project. The industry is in bad shape, but the government is not bothered about reviving it,” said Amarinder, former Punjab chief minister.
He was talking to the media outside the district courts, where he had come for a hearing in the Amritsar improvement trust case.
The Captain said, “Farmers of Punjab should be given financial help as part of the drought relief fund from the Centre. The relief should be given to framers directly rather than releasing it to the state government.”
Amarinder said, “In case the government goes ahead with the imposition of fresh taxes, the Congress would start statewide mass protests.”
Meanwhile, the trust case was deferred to September 1. The case will now come up before additional district and sessions judge Rajinder Aggarwal. In July, additional district and sessions judge Jaswinder Sheemar had recused herself from hearing the case. The latter had sent the referral to the sessions judge, Rupnagar, citing personal reasons, following which the district and sessions judge, Rupnagar, has now entrusted hearing of the case to Aggarwal’s court.
Amarinder, former local government minister Chaudhry Jagjit Singh and other accused appeared in the court here for the hearing of the case, registered by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau in 2008. The case was registered following a report of the Vidhan Sabha committee, which had indicted Amarinder, Jag jit and others for having caused a loss of about Rs 130 crore to the state exchequer.
BREACH OF SECURITY
A librarian from Kharar breached Amarinder’s security at the district court on Tuesday. The woman, identif i ed as Kamlesh Kumari, rushed to hug t he s t at e Congress chief and kept weeping without saying anything. Security personnel immediately whisked her away.
