PATIALA: The auditors looking into the financials of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee - run Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University (SGGSWU) have indicted suspended vice-chancellor Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia for misuse of nearly Rs 16 crore.

Among others, the auditors have raised objections on overspending in construction work, purchase of material and other items, paying huge amount for personal security without approval from the trust, plying extra vehicles for personal use.

Ahluwalia was suspended last month following complaints of misuse of money and mismanagement and the university chancellor Avtar Singh Makkar ordered an inquiry into the university funds.

The auditors examined the expenditure of the Rs 70 crore grant given to the university by the SGPC.

“I have got the report and a misuse of almost Rs 16 crore has been reported. The SGPC would submit the report in court on Wednesday during the hearing of the case filed by Ahluwalia,” Makkar said. When asked about the misuse, Makkar said: “He granted construction of sixth f l oor of university campus costing Rs 3 crore against the norms, spent large money on his personal needs, like hiring private security, purchase of several items, etc. There were hundreds of objections raised by auditors, I can’t list all.”

About the possible action against Ahluwalia, the SGPC president said it was up to the trust of the university to take the final decision.

“But, he will have to face the music for misusing funds,” he said, adding that the university would now chargesheet Ahluwalia to give him a chance to clear his stand.

Ahluwalia, who once approached the court challenging his suspension, recently offered to compromise with the SGPC if the latter withdrew the inquiries against him and gave him the benefits of job.
