Blue Star Operation : Court issues notices to CM, Dy CM and Punjab CS

Chandigarh : A local court of the civil judge (senior division) has issued notices to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and Punjab Chief Secretary in a case relating to the construction of Blue Star Operation memorial. The case has been filed by an NGO Global Human Rights Council chairperson Arvind Thakur. All the three defendants have been asked to reply to the notice by October 15, 2012.

In a petition it had been prayed before the court that defendants should be directed to stop the preparation of blue prints regarding construction of a memorial for Blue Star Operation. It has also been prayed in the petition that the defendants should also be issued directions not to sponsor the memorial at the cost of state exchequer.

The petition said that the Operation Blue Star was the outcome of the politics in Punjab and keeping in view the circumstances which led to operation, the establishment of the memorial is not in the interest of the people of the state. It is apprehended that it may hit peace and tranquillity of the state and the nation.
