High Court notice to Punjab on groundwater usage

Chandigarh, : The Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued notices to the state of Punjab, PUDA, and the Central Ground Water Authority on a PIL seeking a ban on the use of groundwater for construction purposes in 18 blocks of Punjab.
The Division Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Jasbir Singh and Justice Rakesh Jain issued the notices for October 3 on the PIL filed by advocate HC Arora. He was seeking the issuance of directions to deputy commissioners, municipal corporations and municipal councils through the Punjab Chief Secretary for imposing a ban on use of groundwater for construction purposes.
He was also seeking adoption of other measures such as rainwater harvesting. For the purpose, Arora suggested amendments in the bylaws for making provision for the same.
