Chandigarh, : A delegation of legislators, led by Congress Legislature Party Leader Sunil Jakhar, will meet Punjab Governor Shivraj Patil on September 25 to emphasise the need for calling an emergency assembly session to discuss the “hopeless” financial situation of the state and “unconstitutional” imposition of taxes after presenting the state Budget.
Jakhar said: “Legislative conventions are being abused and tweaked for political expediency. It is dangerous for democratic traditions and will embolden the SAD-BJP government to take more such anti-people steps in future”.
He said the Punjab Congress was duty bound to oppose imposition of taxes on the common man and keep a check on the wasteful expenditure by the government. He said the party would also highlight the indulgence of Punjab ministers in “diversion and siphoning” of central funds and call for an audit by CAG.
