Cong to ask Centre for direct bonus to Punjab farmers

Chandigarh : With Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar expressing his ministry's inability to help Punjab farmers as the state had not invited a Central team to assess the ground situation, the state Congress today advocated approaching the Centre for a special bonus on paddy to Punjab farmers.
Congress Legislature Party Leader Sunil Jakhar said the bonus could be given on per quintal of paddy procured from the farmers. Jakhar said the state government had also "bungled" in calculating relief, which went up from Rs 2,200 crore to 5,110 crore in a matter of days.
The Congress leader said the state unit would approach the Agriculture Ministry for direct bonus to Punjab farmers to compensate them for their losses. He suggested that the Chief Minister or the Deputy CM could be part of the delegation.
