Dalits protest non-disbursal of grants

Sangrur : Members of the Dalit community today burnt an effigy of the Punjab Government to protest against the non-issuance of benefits of various social welfare schemes, including Shagun and Atta-dal schemes. The protest was held under the leadership of Congress leader Poonam Kangra at the traffic lights chowk here.
Kangra dubbed the SAD-BJP government as "anti-Dalit" and "anti-poor". She said a large number of Dalit families had been awaiting benefits under various schemes for past quite some time. She said the Dalits, in association with the Congress, would intensify their stir in case the state government failed to release payments.
