JALANDHAR: Congress Legislature Party leader Sunil Jakharha surged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to allocate a heavy industry to Punjab to reduce unemployment, which was leading to drug addiction.
A delegation led by Jakhar met the PM at the Adampur airbase, where he had made a brief halt while on his way to Himachal Pradesh. Jakhar requested Manmohan that heavy industry projects must be allocated to Punjab to give a fillip to the state’s economy and provide gainful employment to the youth. He explained to the PM how unemployment was driving the youth to drugs and despair.
The delegation also told the Prime Minister that the process of enroling the entire population of the state under UID Aadhaar cards was yet to be completed, due to which many BPL families entitled to the benefits of various welfare schemes were in a state of anxiety. He also urged the PM to offer direct subsidy to the state’s scheduled caste population.
