Chandigarh: The main opposition Congress on Monday sought CBI probe into the registration of fake police case at Khalra police station in Tarn Taran. “Mere dismissal of guilty cops and registration of FIR against them will not expose the entire nexus. Chief Minister should instead refer the investigation to the CBI to unearth the real truth, as it’s likely that some influential political people are behind the sinister game plan,” the Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Sunil Jakhar said.

The CLP leader said, “The claim of Punjab Congress of ethical and moral bankruptcy of Punjab police stands vindicated with the expose of registering a fake FIR under Excise Act in Khalra police station in Tarn Taran district with an intention to help murderers and creating a perfect alibi. It is shocking how for paltry sum of money, the police officials were hand in glove with hardcore criminals, who had committed heinous murder in Uttrakhand and were actively involved in providing them with an alibi by making fake arrests against concocted FIR.”

Training guns on the law enforcing agency, Jakhar said, “Punjab Police has become puppet in the hands of political establishment of Akalis and BJP, who use it to settle political scores and influence the electoral process in the state. . People of Punjab are at risk if this kind of criminal behaviour of police personnel is not checked with iron hand of law.”

On Sunday, Khalra police station SHO and four other police personnel were dismissed on the charges of taking bribe to register a concocted FIR against two persons. While ASI Kamal Nain was arrested, other four dismissed cops were still at large.

All the five policemen, including Khalra police station SHO Jagdish Raj, Sur Singh police post incharge Kamal Nain Singh, Head Constables Hazara Singh and Dilbag Singh and Rupinder Singh of the IRB had been booked under the IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act.
