JALANDHAR: Gymkhana Club of thecity is all geared up fully to elect its new team of functionaries to give new look to the prestigious club of the elite of the city.

Iqbal Singh Sidhu, SDM-cum-returning officer for the elections of the club appointed by SR Laddhar, the Divisional Commissioner, Jalanadhar, who is also the president of the club said that all arrangements for the elections had been completed.

He said that the member voters would be allowed to caste their vote only on producing the voter slip. No person irrespective of the VIPs, VVIPs or the political leaders would be allowed to stand near the main entrance of the club for canvassing in favour of any candidate. More than 3000 members of the club are expected to caste their vote to elect a new body of the club.

This time, the four time sitting honorary secretary of the club Satish Thakur Gora is facing tough contest at the hands of leading income tax practitioner Daljit Singh Chhawra of the Progressive group. The members are to elect honorary four office bearers of the club apart from a ten member executive.

The office bearers to be elected include the honorary Secretary, Junior Vice President, Joint Secretary and Treasurer. After the announcement of Paramjit Singh Penta of the progressive group already declared elected unopposed for the post of the junior vice president by the returning officer, the members have to vote for the election of remaining three posts of honorary secretary, joint secretary and treasurer besides the executive body.
