ROPAR: RTI activist advocate Paramjit Singh Pamma today alleged that Punjab Government has misused the money for organising the World Cup Kabaddi championship held in 2011 in the state.

While talking to media persons here today Pamma said that as per the information made available to him by the Youth Services and Sports department Punjab under Right to Information Act ,an amount of Rs.16,95,66,000 was collected for organising the World Cup Kabaddi championship in 2011, out of which Rs.15,56,14,763 were spent by the department while no details were made available about the remaining amount of about Rs.one crore.

He said Government had collected Rs.9,95,66,000 from builders and industrialists  for the Kabaddi cup out of which Pearl group alone had provided Rs.7 crores.

Pamma said that an amount of Rs.4,45,91,855 was spent on the Boarding and Lodging of the teams alone while Rs.77,63,383 were misused for arranging private transport for the players and officials despite the fact that the government had its own transport department.

He said another surprising fact that come to light was that an amount of Rs.5,55,83,000 were spent on the cultural programmes organised during the matches of the World Cup Kabaddi ,which was also sheer misuse of money.

He alleged that government was not organising the World Cup Kabaddi championship for promoting Kabaddi but it had vested political interests in organizing such events.

Pamma also said that as per the information made available to him their were only 11 Kabaddi coaches in the entire state out of which two coaches were of Sports Authority of India. The government had not construct any world level for promoting the game of Kabaddi during last years, which proved that government was not sincere in promoting Kabaddi in the state.
