CHANDIGARH: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh on Wednesday hailed the Lok Sabha vote on the Foreign Direct Investment in retail defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sponsored motion opposing it (FDI).

The PCC President also lashed out at the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) for its opportunistic stand in opposing the FDI when it had supported it at first.

He said that the BJP and its allies like the SAD had lost all the moral ground in opposing the FDI after the Parliament had rejected its motion to drop the FDI legislation. He hoped that better sense prevails among the BJP and its alliance partners and they do not oppose the FDI for petty political reasons.

Capt Amarinder reiterated that the farmers will stand benefited the most once FDI is introduced and hoped that the Akalis can see the reason and introduce it in Punjab as well without making it a prestige issue.

At the same time, he maintained that the FDI will not have any adverse impact on the traditional retailers who have been in the trade across the country for a long time.
