CHANDIGARH: The opposition party, Congress, has chalked out an elaborate strategy to the put the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP government, led by chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, on the mat on ahost of issues in the forthcoming winter session of Punjab Vidhan Sabha beginning from December 17.

Leader of the opposition, Sunil Jakhar, indicated on Tuesday that the deteriorating law and order situation as highlighted by the killing of a Punjab Police ASI Ravinderpal Singh by a local SAD leader at Amritsar last week and the infamous Shruti abduction case will be the main issue to be used by them to corner the government. He said that he would move an adjournment motion on the issue.

He said, “It is clear that the ruling SAD-BJP alliance in general and the SAD in particular have given a free hand to lumpun elements inducted into the party in a bid to expand its base and brow-beat opponents. But the chickens are now coming home to roost and these very elements are giving a bad name to the Badal government.”

Jakhar said that the other issues to be taken up by the opposition included border areas development fund scam, the Shagun scheme scam and large scale diversion of Central funds for state schemes.

“Theopposition would also expose the Akali Dal’s double-speak on the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in retail sector because while the party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal had supported FDI in his letter to Union commerce minister Anand Sharma last year, the SAD had now changed its stand under pressure from the BJP,” he added.
