LUDHIANA: The Ludhiana District Congress Committee (urban) will stage a protest demonstration on December 20 against recent decisions of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation that seek to impose heavy taxes on the city residents. According to the DCC president Pawan Dewan the party is gearing up for the protest demonstration.

A meeting of the congress leaders was held at Sarabha Nagar today in which all block presidents, leader of opposition, senior deputy leader of opposition and former minister Malkit Singh Dakha were present during the meeting in which they appealed the general public to take part in the protest so that the corrupt practices of BJP-Akali could be highlighted.

Dewan said, party decided to hold a protest demonstration after the party found that the issue of TS 1 certificate was effecting the general public of the city.

He said, a series of other corrupt practices have also been highlighted for the past sometime that has made it clear that the officials in the corporation were not working for city residents but for themselves. Dewan disclosed that Tax Superintendent registration number 1  (TS 1) was made compulsory by the commissioner of the MC on November 22 wherein he ordered that all the residents are required to clear all the dues before issuance of the TS 1 certificate. Congress has decided to oppose the move as it was against the residents of the city.

The protest would be organized on December 20 at 10.30 in morning at Zone A office of the MC. Councilors of the party under the leadership of district president Pawan Dewan would gather and protest against the imposition of TS 1 as well as other corrupt practices of the MC.

Dewan said, “MC should roll back its decision to impose the TS 1 certificate on general public. It shows how the MC and the state government was least concerned about the welfare of the residents and wanted only to fill its coffers”.

He said that there have been many inquiries going against the MC officials that are pending for the past long time. “These inquiries are never completed due to unknown reasons and these officials go scot-free. Government should immediately take action against these officials and complete the inquiries against them” said Dewan.

Prominent included on this occasion were Hemraj Aggarwal, Rakesh Prashar, Parminder Mehta, Baljinder Bunty, Jarnail Singh Shimlapuri, Rakesh Sharma, Vinod Bathla, Gurmukh Singh Mithu, Palwinder Singh Taggar, Satwinder Jawaddi, Manpreet Grewal & others.
