CHANDIGARH: The brief winter session of the Punjab Assembly beginning here tomorrow is likely to be a stormy affair with main opposition Congress gearing up to put the government on mat on several issues, including law and order.
The Congress is expected to move an adjournment motion to force the government to discuss the law and order situation in the state, party sources said here today. On the other hand, the ruling SAD and its ally BJP has decided to raise the issue of "cases of injustice" during the the Congress rule in Punjab and at the Centre, SAD sources said.
"We feel the deteriorating law and order situation in the state following subjugation of police by Akali jathedars is the most pressing problem facing the people and needs to be discussed in detail," CLP leader Sunil Kumar Jakhar said.
The Congress has drawn up a strategy under which it will primarily target Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal who holds the Home portfolio, party leaders said."Criminalisation of SAD" will be an issue, said Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh who is likely to participate in the debate.
Jakhar said the Congress will try to expose the "anti-urban bias of the SAD which has imposed property tax in the state and now wants to lease urban utilities to private parties".The Congress will also highlight SAD's "double speak" on the FDI issue and demand a white paper on "irregularities" in distribution of the border area development fund, the party leaders said.
Obituary references will be made tomorrow while the House will conduct financial business on December 18.
The House is likely to adjourn sine die on December 21.
