LUDHIANA : Congress activists are gearing up to launch a concerted attack on the SAD-BJP government and the civic administration during the party’s protest against imposition of local taxes and disruption in development works to be organized here on December 20.

In a meeting of Congress councilors, convened by leader of the party councilors Hem Raj Aggarwal, the councilors vehemently opposed imposition of development charges on old properties before issuing TS-1 certificate (proof of ownership).

Congress councilors Rakesh Parashar and Sushma Mehta alleged that development works in the city had come to a complete standstill.

“The MC is not able to even carry out small repair works in the streets, sanitation level is pathetic to say the least, the street lights remain non-functional in most parts of the city, and majority of the sewerage man-holes are without covers,” they lamented.

Aggarwal and other Congress councilors vowed that the party will continue the agitation till development works in the city were resumed and the burden of local taxes on the people was withdrawn.
