FATEHGARH SAHIB: Alleging that revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia, who is patron of the Youth Akali Dal ( YAD), “is the man behind brutal attacks by YAD workers on people across t he state”, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee ( PPCC) president Capt Amarinder Singh on Wednesday demanded Majithia’s ouster from the state cabinet and registration of a criminal case against him.

On the offensive during an impressive show of strength at the Congress’ political conference to mark the annual Jor Mela here, Amarinder said, “Matters have gone out of the hands of chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, who is unable to control Majithia and his goons.”

“Deputy chief minister and Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal is, meanwhile, busy making fraudulent development plans. He has no vision as to what he wants exactly. But Majithia is a shrewd man, and is using his position to promote his henchmen. He has taken the entire government in his hands,” Amarinder alleged.

“I don’t know what CM Badal is doing these days, because he has not made any statement over these incidents.” Terming Majithia “Sardar ( leader) of goons in Punjab”, Amarinder claimed that the Congress would have never allowed such a man to take the regime’s reins.

“Since his men are attacking and killing even policemen, Majithia should also be booked in a criminal case,” the former CM said, obviously referring to the December 5 murder of an assistant sub- inspector ( ASI) in Amritsar and the attack on an AIG in Ludhiana on Tuesday.

Senior Congress leader and fo r mer CM Raji nder Kaur Bhattal said, “The cruel souls of the Mughals who looted India for a long time have entered the bodies of the Badals now.”

Congress Legislature Party leader Sunil Jakhar and party vice- president Lal Singh were conspicuous by their absence. In attendance were MP Sukhdev Singh Libra, and MLAs Randeep Singh, Balbir Singh Sidhu, Jagmohan Singh Kang, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Charanjit Channi and Gurkirat Kotli.
