CHANDIGARH: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh today hailed the beginning of the process of depoliticizing the police department.

Referring to the media reports that the Punjab police was to transfer all the police personnel with over 3 years of stay at a particular place, he said, the move was welcome and hoped it would be taken to its logical conclusion.

The PCC President said, it was good that the wisdom dawned on the government and it realized the urgency to depoliticise the police and do away with the practice of making halqa incharges all powerfull vis-a-vis functioning of the police.

Capt Amarinder maintained that the line of command in police must be ensured according to the rules. Once police are allowed to function independently without being made to report to halqa inchares things will certainly fall in line.

He said, it was a long overdue measure which will go a long way in ensuring good police working and better law and order.
