Ludhiana : The Union planning commission decried the delay in submission of detailed project report (DPR) of Ludhiana Metro Rail Project during a meeting conducted in Delhi on Wednesday. The commission asked the MC officials for submitting the revised DPR as soon as possible so that it could be reviewed in detail and then further process could take place. But the civic officials claimed that the delay was at Punjab government’s end and they had already submitted the report with the government.

In the month of October 2012, a team of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had visited the city for revising the detailed project report that was made in 2007-08. The officials after visiting main stations for metro project, had decided to increase the number of stations from 27 to 28 and instead of acquiring private land, they recommended the use of government land.

According to this revised plan, the Ludhiana Metro Rail Transit System (LMRTS) will cost Rs 1,500 crore less than its earlier estimated bill of Rs 10,300 crore. The Punjab Infrastructure Development Board (PIDB) is conducting financial feasibility of this report and in the next week, it will be submitted to the planning commission for their approval.MC Commissioner RK Verma said, “The meeting was called for reviewing the project of metro rail in the city and planning commission was asking for the revised detailed project report so we informed that the report was almost finalised and we would submit it by next week most probably.” He further said after the submission of the DPR, it would be checked and sanction would be granted that would further help in starting tender procedure.
