State earns overRs 100 crore from auction of mines

Chandigarh : The Punjab government on Thursday earned record revenue of Rs 101 crore against the reserve price of Rs 4 crore from the auction of mines in only four districts of Jalandhar, Mohali, Kapurthala and Ludhiana, held at Udyog Bhawan here.
Disclosing this, the Industries and Commerce Minister Anil Joshi said it was the result of the steps taken by the state government to maintain total transparency in auction and the strict action taken against illegal mining.
He revealed that the mines of Mohali district have generated maximum revenue of Rs 34.25 crore, followed by Kapurthala district Rs 26.52 crore, Jalandhar district Rs 22.12 crore and mines of Ludhiana district have earned Rs 18.2 crore for state treasury.
The Minister directed the officials of the Industries Department to work hard in an honest and transparent manner so that the development and construction work does not get affected. He said the Punjab government was fully committed to provide sand to common man on very nominal rates and for that, he has already directed the officers to monitor mining operations in a strict manner.
Joshi added that 869 police cases against illegal mining had been registered in the last 8 months.
