Muktsar : Defying the state government and the Speaker of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, the Pradesh Congress today played the video CD showing Public Relations Minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia hurling abuses at Congress MLA Rana Gurjit Singh on the floor of the House, at its political rally here.

The CD was played thrice at the insistence of Raja Warring, Congress MLA from Gidderbaha, the main organiser of the rally.

Clippings of the 60-second CD were displayed on a 42-inch screen thrice. It carried a short commentary on the significance of the video.

The clipping showing Majithia using expletives was played twice, before the arrival of Union Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal and after his departure.

It was played just before Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Capt Amarinder Singh addressed the gathering.

No attempt was made by the local police to block the show though Additional Deputy Commissioner Narinder Singh Bath had warned the organisers earlier in the day against playing the CD.

The Muktsar police has not registered any case against the organisers for playing the CD without the prior permission of the District Collector.

The CD proved quite a crowd-puller. People were seen craning their necks for a glimpse of the video recording.

Parminder Singh of Gidderbaha (50) said he had come especially to see the recording. Amarinder Singh said the Congress had honoured its promise to “expose Akali goondaism” both inside and outside the state Assembly.

He said Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal had no locus standi to stop the Congress from screening the VCD of the SAD leader. Warring showered praise on party workers for managing to sneak in LCD screens despite heavy police deployment.
