MUKTSAR: Against the warning of the administration, the Punjab Congress on Sunday screened the CD containing controversial speech of revenue minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia here at the Maghi mela on Sunday, even as state party president Captain Amarinder Singh sought imposition of President’s rule in the state in the wake of ‘ poor’ law and order.

Sharing dais with union railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, Amarinder held chief minister Parkash Singh Badal responsible for the prevailing “goonda raj” in the state.

“Bikram Majithia cannot alone be blamed for the goondaraj in Punjab. It is Parkash Singh Badal’s responsibility to rein him in,” Amarinder said.

“The CM should not take for granted that he will complete his full term as chief minister. We demand President’s rule in the state as Akali leaders were not sparing even the policemen,” said Amarinder.

Joined by Congress leaders Jagmeet Brar and Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, Amarinder gave a call for unity to all the party leaders and workers ahead of the Moga by- election. “It is a golden chance for teaching Akalis a lesson. I will camp in Moga during the by- election and it will be the beginning of the end of the Akali rule.”

Bhattal criticised Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal for not speaking up when there was spurt in crimes against women, citing Faridkot kidnapping case and some other rape cases.

The Congress Legislative Party ( CLP) leader Sunil Jakhar lashed out at the chief minister for ‘ betraying’ the farmers.

Congress Working Committee member Jagmeet Brar said, “The Badals never demanded a new train for Punjab to safeguard their interests in surface transport in Punjab.”

The CD carrying extracts of the speech of Majithia i n the Vidhan Sabha was played around five times at the rally. Screens were not too big to let everyone watch it, but the voice was loud and clear. Although the administration had warned the Congress against screening of the CD, there was no action on Sunday when it was actually screened in public.
