SAD leader’s son booked for thrashing policeman

Ludhiana : In yet another incident of highhandedness by influential politicians and their kin, an Akali leader's son along with his aide allegedly assaulted a head constable and a home guard jawan near Bhangu Hospital in Doraha today.

The incident took place this morning when head constable Manjit Singh and home guard jawan Ravinder Singh were on duty to keep a check on growing eve-teasing incidents in the area.

Narinderpal Singh, son of SAD leader Gurmail Singh of Bagowal village was allegedly driving a white Maruti Swift car while talking on a mobile phone.

When he was signalled by the policemen to stop the vehicle, he allegedly abused them. Manjit said when he told Narinderpal that he would be challaned, he along with his aide Ghughi started thrashing them. "Ghughi even took out a sharp-edged weapon and hit it on my wrist," he said.

Narinderpal and Ghughi managed to escape. Manjit was admitted to a private hospital. The police registered a case on the statement of the head constable.

Doraha Station House Officer (SHO) Satwant Singh Bains said the accused had been booked for allegedly tearing the uniform, assaulting and stopping government servants from performing their duty.
