Moga : The Chief Election Commissioner has ordered that the Moga Superintendent of Police (H), Dilbagh Singh Pannu be transferred out of the district.
Kusumjit Kaur Sidhu, Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, said as per the EC directions, she had sought a panel of officers from the Home Department so that a new SP could be appointed.
Pannu was prematurely retired from service when he was Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Kotkapura, on July 27, 2011. But he was again taken back into service prior to the 2012 assembly elections and later promoted by the SAD-BJP regime.
Congress nominee Vijay Sathi had demanded that Pannu be shifted out as he feared that the SAD-BJP Government could "misuse the officer to influence the electorate."
Chandigarh: The counting of votes for the Moga byelection, that will be held on February 23, will be undertaken on February 28, say official sources. Nominations will be held on February 6. The last date for withdrawals is February 9.
No poll pact with Cong: Manpreet
Moga: The Sanjha Morcha has announced that it will not go for a political alliance with the Congress in the Moga assembly byelection. Manpreet Singh Badal, Morcha chairman, said a decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of coalition partners in Chandigarh last night.
He said Ravinder Singh Dhaliwal would be the Morcha candidate. He said the Congress leaders had not held formal talks with the Morcha regarding support to their candidate, except for appeals through the media. — TNS
Now Cong wants SSP shifted too
Chandigarh:Two days after complaining against Moga Superintendent of Police (SP). Dilbagh Singh Pannu, the Congress has now shot off a letter to Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), seeking the transfer of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ashish Chaudhary.
The party has alleged that the government had extended undue favour to Chaudhary by posting him as Moga SSP and his wife Shruti Singh as Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner. "The SSP will try to help the ruling party in garnering votes," the party alleged.
