Valtoha: Husband of an Akali sarpanch allegedly shot dead a head constable of Punjab Police on wee hours of Thursday morning in Valtoha village of Tarn Taran district. In the incident, the accused Surinder Singh, a resident of Daudpura village, fired with his licensed revolver on Punjab Police cop Jaswant Singh, who was deployed at Police Lines, Patiala.
According to Inspector Shivdarshan Singh, Jaswant entered the sarpanch house around 2:30 am. The family got suspicious and it was then that Surinder fired on him for his safety. He added that when they came to know about the incident they rushed to the spot and found Jaswant in a pool of blood.
Singh said that in the preliminary investigation they came to know that Jaswant was mentally disturbed and had left his house early morning without informing his family. He further said that Jaswant along with his wife came to his in-laws’s house to attend a bhog ceremony of his relative.
He added that Jaswant was under treatment at a private hospital in Amritsar and was out of danger. SHO said that they have not recorded any statement of the injured and no case has been registered against the alleged accused. On the other hand, Jaswant’s nephew, Karamjeet Singh refuted the allegation of the cops.
