MOGA: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh today reminded the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his Deputy Chief Minister son Sukhbir Badal that till recent past, before Joginderpal Jain joined the Akali Dal, they had been describing him (Jain) as an international smuggler who deserved to be in jail and not in the assembly, then what made them change their opinion about him within no time.
Asserting that both Sukhbir and Jain were pure opportunists Capt Amarinder, while addressing a series of public meetings at villages Daulatpura-Unchaneema, Dhalleke and Maheshwari in support of the party candidate Vijay Sathi, pointed out that during the campaigning for 2012 assembly elections when Joginderpal Jain was a Congress candidate, Sukhbir had frequently said in his speeches that Jain was an international smuggler whom he was going to put in Faridkot jail.
“And now Sukhbir is himself campaigning for the same international smuggler and trying to send him to assembly and not Faridkot jail”, he remarked while having a dig at the Deputy Chief Minister saying he had set and scripted a shameful precedent in the history of political betrayals. “No matter how hard you try, Jain will never again see the gates of the Punjab assembly anymore”, he told Sukhbir.
The PCC President maintained that it reflected the intimidating nature of the Deputy Chief Minister to threaten their political opponents to win them over. “Unfortunately Jain succumbed and compromised without caring about the trust reposed in him by the people of Moga”, he said, while adding, the people of Moga will now make Jain realise that he had committed political suicide by betraying his own people to join the enemies.
Capt Amarinder stated that the Moga byelection will set an example against political opportunism and betrayal scripted together by Jain and Sukhbir. “Don’t take the public trust for granted”, he warned, saying that not only the Congress workers, even the Akalis were not happy over Jain joining the party as they are finding it difficult to defend and support the same person they opposed only a year ago.
Among those present on the occasion inclu ded Vijay Sathi, Rana Sodhi, Arvind Khanna, Harpreet Hero, Dr Malti Thapar, Darshan Brar, Sukhminder Danny and others.
