MOGA: Dharampal Singh, one of the 17 youths who were earlier on death row but later released by the United Arab Emeritus government, today expressed his gratitude to the Punjab Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh and his wife and the Minister of State for External Affairs Perneet Kaur for their untiring efforts to save their lives and seek their freedom.
The youth, who belongs to Ferozepur district, had come to meet Capt Amarinder along with his mother to village Dhalleke to thank him personally. “Without the efforts of Capt Amarinder Singh and Maharani Perneet Kaur our freedom was out of question”, he said while talking to reporters.
He said, all of them had given up hope as nobody had come to their support. However, he added, after Capt Amarinder took up the matter with the UAE rulers and the government of India they started feeling hopeful of getting free.
He and his mother offered a robe of acknowledgement to Capt Amarinder saying he owed his life to him only.
The PCC president said, it was his duty and also praised the government of India and the external affairs ministry for raising the matter with the UAE government that ultimately led to the release of the youth.
Rana Gurmeet Sodhi, who was also present on the occasion said, the Akali rulers of Punjab had no idea about the youth and it was because of the efforts of Capt Amarinder that they were free and alive today.
