MOGA: Punjab Congress today accused the ruling Akali Dal of misusing the government machinery and intimidating the Congress workers. The party has written to Election Commission giving details of various violations being committed by the ruling Akali Dal particularly by its ministers and the Chief Parliamentary Secretaries.

The Punjab Congress general secretary and the overall incharge of the party’s campaign for Moga byelection, Rana Gurjeet Singh said here today that the Akali ministers were moving around with all the security paraphernalia and staff in a clear attempt to intimidate the voters. He said, some of their leaders were also using the beacon lights and hooters on their vehicles.

Rana Gurjeet said, the party has urged the Election Commission to keep a close vigil on the activities of the Akali leaders particularly the ministers and the Chief Parliamentary Secretaries since they were misusing their position and authority for threatening people.

He said, some of the ministers and CPSs have even warned people of “consequences” after February 23 since they will continue to be in power if they did not support the Akali Dal.
