MOGA: Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari today asked the Akalis that if everything was to be blamed on the centre what was the state government meant for? He said, the Akalis were most ungrateful when they accused the centre of discrimination as their government was surviving only with the grants provided by the centre.

Addressing a largely attended public meeting at the Partap Road in support of the party candidate Vijay Sathi here today, Tewari pointed out, every week the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal is in New Delhi meeting the Prime Minister and other union ministers asking for various grants and aid and everybody is gracious enough to grant it. “Unfortunately once he returns to Punjab he starts crying wolf that centre was discriminating with Punjab”, he pointed out.

Referring to the poor state of economy in Punjab, Tewari said, under the last six years of Akali rule the Punjab had gone down from sixth to twelfth place in the development index while the state debt had broken all the records. “Is this the development they are claiming to have done?” he asked, while appealing to the people of Moga to vote for the Congress candidate and voice their disapproval for the wrong and lopsided policies of this government.

The Minister said, the people of Moga have got a rare opportunity to voice and articulate the sentiment, the anger and the resentment of all the people from across Punjab by rejecting the Akali candidate as mark of protest against the wrong policies of the government. He asked, where are the laptops for the school children and where are the bicycles for the girls.

Tewari said, this government was trying to survive on mere lies. “But you cannot befool all the people all the time with your lies”, he told the government while strongly urging the people to ensure that the Congress candidate Vijay Sathi wins with the biggest margin. “I know you are going to vote for Congress and ensure Vijay Sathi’s victory, but I want you to ensure that this is done with the highest margin as a strong message to the Akalis that they have let the people of Punjab down”, he asserted amidst thundering applause from thousands of people who had gathered to listen to him.

Party candidate Vijay Sathi also spoke on the occasion.
