MOGA: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh today clarified that he will be staying in Moga upto February 23 till the last vote is cast for the byelection and ensure that the Akalis do not indulge in any goondaism and intimidation of voters.

In an informal interaction with reporters after addressing a well attended public meeting at village Daroli Bhai near here today, the PCC president, when asked as how he could stay after the campaigning period is over as the Election Commission of India had ordered all the outsiders to leave, said that after the completion of the campaigning he will camp right outside the constituency in the nearest village.

He said, he respected the ECI orders of not staying within the constituency after the completion of the campaign on February 21. However, he added, he will stay put at the nearest place which would not fall in the constituency but will be closest to it as it will be easy to monitor the situation from there.

The PCC president said, he had full confidence in the Election Commission conducting a fair poll. “However, as the leader of my party, it is also my responsibility to ensure that the Akalis do not misuse their position and power and that is why I would be closely monitoring the situation”, he clarified.

Capt Amarinder maintained that the Akalis had seen the writing on the wall as the defeat was staring on them. He said, he had apprehensions that the Akalis might resort to unfair means, goondaism and intimidation.

“I will lead my party-men to ensure that the Akalis are not allowed to do so as they can resort to all these things as they know they are not going to win in any case”, he asserted.
