MOGA: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh today said that the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was spending most of his time knocking at the doors of the angry and upset Akali leaders and not among the people of Moga.
Having a dig at the Chief Minister for going and staying overnight with the dissident and alienated Akali leaders in Moga in order to bring them on board, Capt Amarinder advised him not to waste time and energy at this age and better take care of his ailing health instead, lest he catches the chest infection once more.
Addressing a largely attended public meeting at village Rattian here today, Capt Amarinder taunted Mr Badal for his desperate bid to convince senior Akali leaders like Tota Singh and the ex-DGP PS Gill to support the turncoat Joginderpal Jain, whom they had opposed only in recent past.
“I can understand Badal’s tragedy”, Capt Amarinder remarked, while adding, “he is fighting a desperate battle for survival though reluctantly as we know that he was not keen to induct Jain into party and field him from Moga”.
Capt Amarinder revealed to a cheering crowd that Tota Singh had bluntly refused Mr Badal to campaign for Jain. To this, he added, Mr Badal urged him that for the sake of his honour and age he (Tota Singh) should at least accompany him to public meetings even if he did not want his supporters to join Jain’s campaign.
“That is the reason that none of the supporters of Tota Singh or Mr Gill are campaigning for Jain”, the PC president explained to the workers, while pointing out, “how indifferent Tota Singh is in the campaign meetings while Mr Gill is not even seen anywhere”.
The PCC president remarked, notwithstanding Mr Badal’s bravado about his good health and being “90 per cent young”, the matter of the fact was that he had been advised complete bed rest but was dragged out from bed to campaign in Moga by his Deputy Chief Minister son Sukhbir Badal to save him from an imminent defeat which though he cannot come what may.
“Poor Mr Badal has to do it all against his own will and that too when he knows it too well that Jain was going to lose”, he remarked, while adding, “I am told that Badal would be the happiest person when Jain loses as he wants to convey a message that he did not approve of inducting outsiders and turncoats at the cost of the interest of his own workers”.
Among others present on the occasion included Vijay Sathi, Darshan Singh Brar, Jasbir Singh Dimpa, Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu, Tara Singh Sandhu, Dr Malti Thapar and others.
